World Asthma Day

World Asthma Day was established in 1998 and is held each May, to raise the awareness of Asthma worldwide. Asthma cannot be cured, however with the appropriate therapy, asthma can be managed.

Asthma is a chronic, inflammatory condition of the airways, that affects around 5% of adults and 10% of all children. Asthma causes shortness of breath, tightness of the chest and coughing with varying frequency and intensity. Due to the different characteristics of the condition, different methods of treatment are available. It is also important to choose the correct method of therapy which is tailored to the patients' requirements. The most common form of therapy for treating asthma is with an inhaler. However, medication in the form of tablets and steroids are also available. Compressor nebulising devices from Drive DeVilbiss aerosol therapy devices, allow the nebulization of liquid medication and inhalation solutions, such as bronchodilators. When nebulising, micro fine aerosol particles are directly delivered and deposited into the airways.
The correct medication and form of therapy should always be prescribed by a Physician or General Practitioner.
